The journey to back to yourself is a long and sometimes difficult one. But the rewards are incredible. I believe that life challenges are given to us for a reason: to help us to wake up! So how do we do that?
A framework for how I work
I think of the process as a tree. When a tree is healthy, all the different parts work together to bring about growth and to foster stability and presence.
LEAVES: This is our starting point. If the trees leaves aren’t healthy the tree can’t receive the light from the sun and this makes all further growth and health impossible. We begin by assessing your ability to receive the light in your life.
We make sure that you’re no longer a slave to our human hardwired “negativity bias.” We will find strategies and practices that you can use to actually re-wire your brain toward greater positivity, happiness and joy. These tools are things like meditation and gratitude practices, self-care, yoga, Heartmath and/or EFT (It’s ok if you don’t know what these are now). I’ll introduce you to a wide range of different methods and we will find the ones that resonate with you. Meditation has countless forms. Our goal is to find a practice that inspires you, that you want to do everyday.
ROOTS: The roots stablilize the tree and draw up water from the Earth. In our metaphor, this symbolizes your ability to handle difficult life challenges and stress, without getting thrown off. Roots symbolize resilience and also the healing of underlying blocks that keep us stuck where we are. Your roots are your past. This is where EMDR comes in. (Click here to learn more about EMDR)
EMDR helps to heal you at your roots so that situations that used to be incredibly upsetting to you no longer carry the same emotional load they once did. The goal of the roots work is give you the stable foundation you need to move forward authentically, joyfully and capably. It allows you to respond to situations rather than react and to make sounder judgments because you are no longer bound by emotional overload in the same situations that used to cause you so much anxiety and upset.
TRUNK: Between the leaves and the roots, there is the trunk. The trunk symbolizes your actual life right now and how you present yourself to the world. We start on the outside making sure that your daily activities are in harmony with your goals. We work on tuning into your intuition, your soul (the deepest center of the tree). We find those beautiful parts of yourself that have been lost in the process of trying to manage the life-changing challenge that you have gone through and dig them out, polish them and teach you how to live from your deepest truth instead of other people’s expectations and comparisons.
We help you to know yourself deeply, because what we know best we tend to love most. Your love for yourself can transform you life.
This is not a step by step process, but one that will evolve throughout the healing journey.
